Living a ‘good life’ means more than just happiness! In this video series I’ve selected from 101 keywords and discuss how each word can impact your potential to live a more happy, flourishing and prosperous personal and work life.
This is keyword #007 – Anxiety.
One of the inescapable truths for a prosperous life outlined in the Intentionomics® Blueprint, is to take control of your inner voice. What you say to yourself affects how you feel, which affects your actions, which over time create your habits and it is your habits that will lead to you living a happy, flourishing and prosperous life.
For most people the reality is that taking control of your inner voice and practically prodding yourself back into positive thinking and intentional action when you have small hurdles that life can at times present to you is well within your capability.
It’s a matter of tuning in and checking what you’re saying to yourself about the situation and logically challenging yourself about focusing on possibility and potential rather than negativity and being a victim.
While not easy, it is inescapably true that in most cases, taking control of your inner voice, your self talk, is well within your grasp.
When the hurdles get a little higher!
However, taking control of your inner voice at times when life has dealt you a really tough hand may require more than just an ability to think positively.
If you realise that you’re struggling to take control of your inner voice … or feeling levels of anxiety, depression, sadness, a sense of loss or helplessness that are weighing so heavily on you that you don’t know what to do, or where to turn, seeking professional help from a psychologist or counsellor will be a positive step forward.
Indeed, when a serious and significant personal tragedy occured in our lives, even though after a family discussion we were all confident each of us individually were managing our inner voice, Liz and I and our two sons took the opportunity to seek professional counselling together. Having a trained professional to ‘check in’ with and to reassure us that the way we were individually and collectively as a family, managing our reactions to the tragedy was certainly a positive experience.

Living a happy, flourishing and prosperous life does not mean that everything will always be ‘rosey’, and it doesn’t mean that you need to have a positively ‘happy’ feeling 100% of the time. In fact, experiencing the highs and lows and the emotions that go along with being human will, when you take control of your inner voice, in the long run add to the robustness of your human experience and help you to live an even more happy, flourishing and prosperous life.
