My favourite philosopher is Aristotle. I share that with you because somewhere between 384BC and 322BC Aristotle first started to explain his philosophy and that the purpose of life was to pursue the development of character in order to live a happy and flourishing life. As we covered in our Intentionomics at work eClass #1, you’re at work for approximately 76,800 hours – that’s a big slice of your life.
Doesn’t it just make sense to invest your time and effort at work so that you can be happy and flourishing?
In this eClass I will introduce you to the Intentionomics Blueprint of 9 inescapable truths for a prosperous life and although these inescapable truths apply to both your personal and business life, this eCourse in Intentionomics at work, so work life, rather than your personal life, will be the focus.
Now, in reality your work life impacts on your personal life and your personal life impacts your work life. It’s all connected through the various life roles you have (personal and business).
You learned in the last eClass that Intentionomics explains the impact of your intention on you, on others and on living a happy, flourishing and prosperous life. To practically apply Intentionomics you’ll need to understand and take intentional action on nine inescapable truths for a prosperous life.
Inescapable Truth #1: Define What A Prosperous Work Life Means For You. The purpose of life is to be happy, to flourish and to live a prosperous life. What this means is you need to determine what you need in your work life to be happy. You need to define a prosperous work life for you. If you haven’t defined what a prosperous work life will be for you, how can you be working toward maintaining or achieving it? Ask yourself the question “Who do I need to be and what do I need to have in my work life to be happy?”
Inescapable Truth #2: Take stock of your truth about you. People get your truth through your actions and your behaviour and so do you. You need to be happy with your own truth, with who you are and to be working on being the person you need to be, to be happy and to live a prosperous work life. This is about your strength of character and your pride in the person you are.
Inescapable Truth #3: Define your intention for each work life role. You probably play many roles in life including being a partner, friend, community volunteer, or sports coach. While you’re at work you will also have a number of work life roles including being a team member, leader, service provider, or adviser. Ask yourself, how you impact on others in each of your work life roles. What is your reason or your purpose for doing things? Your intention will become clear over time to those with whom you come into contact….people get your truth. Therefore your intention is what connects or disengages you in the personal and business relationships you have. One important life role is to look after you. This includes looking after your health, managing your finances, protecting your assets and pursuing activities that feed your creativity and sense of enjoyment.
Inescapable Truth #4: Control your inner voice. Your inner voice is of course what you silently say to yourself. When was the last time you really tuned into what you are silently and secretly saying to yourself? Here’s the inescapability about this. What you say to yourself affects how you emotionally and physically feel and affects the decisions and actions you take.
Inescapable Truth #5: Develop intentional success habits. As creatures of habit it’s the things we do throughout our lives that are often just done on ‘auto pilot’ that can make all the difference. When are you just on auto pilot? How might this be impacting on your success, your relationships, your conversations and your endeavours or goals?
Inescapable Truth #6: Pursue intentional aspirational goals. Humans are aspirational goal seeking beings. These can be personal or business, material or non-material goals. However, it is an inescapable truth that because all humans have this innate driver of being an aspirational goal seeking being, if you are not pursuing intentional aspirational goals, there will be something missing in your life and therefore make it difficult for you to choose happy and live a prosperous life. The goal could simply be to pursue personal growth to be the best you can be in each work life role you have, or the goals could be more diverse and challenging. While achieving any work goals or targets that are set for you in your work life is fundamental to doing your best in that role, you ought also be setting intentional aspirational goals of your own.
Inescapable Truth #7: Build intentional trust relationships. If you consider when you are and have been most happy in your life it will more than likely be when you are with other people. You don’t get trust, you earn it, and it is an inescapable truth for a prosperous work life to be constantly doing what you need to do, living up to the promises you make and to build intentional trust relationships.
Inescapable Truth #8: Develop a thirst for intentional learning. If you are not learning you are not growing and if you are not growing you are stagnating – how could that make anyone happy? You’re never too young or too old to learn and a thirst for learning is an inescapable truth for a prosperous life.
Inescapable Truth #9: It’s your intentional choice. You can choose to change your life in the blink of an eye. History is full of examples of ordinary people who have simply made the decision to change. They stop smoking through choice. They become a better person by choice. They get fit and eat a better diet by choice. They get things done by choice. I don’t say this lightly, however, if you choose to take intentional action on these 9 inescapable truths over the duration and beyond this eCourse, you will develop stronger work relationships, be more motivated and energised to develop your strength of character and achieve the results to which you aspire. And I can also say with confidence that you will experience the benefit and value of this program beyond work and into your personal life.
How do I know this? Because these inescapable truths are my guideposts. As I’ve reflected over my past and current life, and reach forward with optimism into the future, I am convinced that it is my intentional actions based around these inescapable truths that have and will continue to enable me to live a happy, flourishing and prosperous life.
Intentionomics Self Analysis
Your call to action from this eClass is to complete the Intentionomics Self Assessment. Then over the following eClasses, we’ll spend time getting you to apply each of the inescapable truths to help you to be even more successful at work.
Once you’ve completed the Self Analysis, I recommend you print your report and keep it with these notes and record what you’re learning in your journal.
In our next module we will start with the 1st inescapable truth for success – Defining what work really means for you – the bigger WHY of your work role(s).
My very best to you,
